I AM - Poetry on the Theme of Hope

Poetry is song—but speech is also poetry. - Darryl Lorenzo Wellington, Current Santa Fe Poet Laureate.

In honor of National Poetry Month, we share Ironweed Productions short film, I AM, featuring original poems and spoken word performances by eight compelling young artists from Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque including 2020 Santa Fe Youth Poet Laureate Artemisio Romero y Carver.

In addition to Romero y Carver the film features Akyra Cordova, Yovanna Estrada, JezuDePaz, Llamas, Blanca Ortiz, Teresa Romero, and Arwen Scarlata.

The poems, created around the theme of hope, were workshopped under the mentorship of Israel Francisco Haros Lopez, co-founder and Art Director at Alas De Agua Art Collective, and 2021 recipient of the Santa Fe Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts. The film, co-produced by Ironweed Artistic Director Scott Harrison and Kate Kita, is directed by Matt Sanford in collaboration with filmmaker and cinematographer Freedom Hopkins.

If you wrote a poem on the theme of hope how would it go? Give it a try and share it with us.
